Dovetails, wedged tenons and Blackwood grown right here in Northland. This is sustainability and craft meeting together. If you need book or ornament storage without taking up floor space, a design inspired by the Mark shelving could be a great fit for your home.
The requirement for this piece was that it be strong enough to hold a set of books while remaining open-backed. In furniture design, a cabinet back typically provides both strength and an easy method of wall attachment. The challenge here was to create an open-backed piece that could still support a heavy load.
The solution was a system using French cleats and wedges. The French cleats create a tight connection to the wall using angled fittings, while small wedges lock the piece securely in place. The result is a minimalist, yet carefully crafted design that can be removed from the wall without the need to remove any screws.
The top supports two crystal basins, though these can be customized to suit your preference.
