Description
“Winsborough” designed and made by Lloyd Brooke-Anderson. Corner bookcases are a problem from a design point of view. The corner nook is often dead space with no pleasing way to artfully join the timber panels. A solution to this problem is to embrace the corner space with a pillar design.
This bookcase sits below a painting, “Return to Jerusalem”, by Nigel Brown, one of New Zealand’s most celebrated artists. The geometric motifs in the painting provided inspiration for the symmetrical end grain design at the top of the pillar. Thematically, the macro/microcosm is evident with the smaller segments of end grain echoing the larger shape of the pillar itself.
The back is solid, shiplapped Blackwood panelling and the corners of the bookcase are joined with hand cut dovetails. The shelving is secured in place with through wedged tenons.
A bookcase in celebration of New Zealand art, built for New Zealand homes. For other bookcase solutions, see the Bronte shelving.
