Dreaming and pondering and building and dreaming some more… Am I living in a dream? Strange questions for myself everyday, but nonetheless, in amongst it all, the spinning and whirling confusion of life – I think I’ve built something quite special.
After months of developments, I’m proud to announce Arcana modular shelving system, handcrafted to order in my Kerikeri workshop.
Unable to contain my excitement for this piece, along with help from my friends Helga and Markus, we put together a little video you can watch here:
I already offer the Mark, Winsborough and Bronte shelving, so why another shelf? Because I wanted to design something specifically for art lovers—a shelving system that not only displays precious objects but is a sculptural statement in itself.
This design was developed in collaboration with one of my long standing clients. The brief was for a piece that could display precious objects, be a work of art in itself, and remain fully modular. Since art and precious object collection is a process, we wanted to come up with a solution that exemplified craft while remaining adaptable to any display.

With Arcana, I envisioned a fellow art lover carefully adjusting each shelf to the perfect height for their object, stepping back and feeling a sense of completion and contentment in the celebration of their collection.
Arcana is perfect for:
- Sculptures and ceramics
- Fine art and collectibles
- Cherished books
- Jewellery, watches and textiles
- Whiskey, wine and glassware
- Family heirlooms

The problem with factory made modular shelving is that it often looks mass produced, with no real personality or flair. In contrast, with Arcana I was going for warmth, featuring details that don’t suit mass production and require a craftsman’s touch. We wanted to create a piece that could set the tone for a room and enhance the appeal of your most cherished objects. Shelving shouldn’t just hold things; it should elevate them.
The Arcana modular shelving is a culmination of all the knowledge I’ve gathered so far in my eleven years of furniture making. The brackets are steam bent from solid pieces of timber. The carved inlay, which slides in and out, serves a threefold purpose: supporting the brackets, enhancing the design and concealing fixing points. The dovetailed holding system allows shelves to float up and down the wall to any location that fits your objects.

Installation is simple. I supply a jig to ensure the vertical rails are exactly parallel and a detailed installation video. My client’s exact words were:
“Easy as! We loved the jig- that made it so much easier.” And “It is stunning – thank you so much!”.
What excites me about these shelves is that they can be used wherever inspiration is needed in the home. Whether it’s in your entranceway, gallery wall, entertainment space, or private collection, this shelving system is designed to bring out the best in your home and your art.
If you’re ready to transform your space, let’s talk.
Tell me how many shelves you need, and together we’ll design the perfect Arcana shelving setup for your home.
