Wave Office Hutch

Description

This desk and sliding hutch were built for a homeopathy office, where ideas of balance and harmony are central to the work being done. That context mattered. It shaped the way the piece was thought through from the beginning.

The wave motif emerged naturally. Homeopathy is concerned with the balancing of forces, and the repetition and symmetry of the wave felt like a fitting visual language for that idea. There’s movement in it, but it’s held. It’s decorative, but only insofar as it’s doing some quiet work.

In this particular space, the footprint was tight. Rather than forcing a straight desk into the room, the surface was given a gentle curve, allowing the desk to sit more comfortably between the walls and making better use of the available space. It changes how you move around the piece, and how you sit at it. A small adjustment, but an important one.

The hutch itself is built from locally grown Blackwood, with locally grown Walnut used for the sliding doors. The wave elements are formed using traditional steam bending techniques. That process gives the curves a softness and integrity that’s hard to replicate any other way.

While this piece was designed for a specific brief, the wave motif isn’t a fixed idea. It’s better thought of as a starting point. From there, we can work outward adjusting proportion, material, and layout to suit your space and the way you intend to use it.
